Privacy Policy
SkateBits is a live multiplayer skateboarding game. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your data. By using the SkateBits app or website, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the data needed to run the game:
- Account information. Email address and password (handled by Firebase Authentication), display name, optional country flag, and optional Instagram handle.
- Gameplay content. Lobbies you join, your turn results, SKATE letter count, rating, and game history.
- Live audio and video. When you join a lobby, your microphone and camera stream to other participants in the same lobby in real time via LiveKit. Streams are not recorded or stored by SkateBits.
- Chat messages. Direct messages and game invites you send to other players are stored so they can be delivered.
- Push notification token. A device token issued by Apple Push Notification service (delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you game invites and match alerts.
- Purchase status. If you buy SkateBits Pro, Apple processes the payment. We read your purchase status locally on your device through StoreKit to unlock Pro features. We do not see or store your payment details.
2. What We Don't Collect
- We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not collect your precise or coarse location.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, health data, or browsing history.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We do not use your data for cross-app advertising. SkateBits is not required to show an App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information above only to:
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure
- Match you into lobbies and run live games
- Show profiles, rankings, and game history
- Deliver chat messages and game invites
- Send push notifications you've opted into
- Unlock SkateBits Pro features when you've purchased them
4. Service Providers
We use the following third-party processors to operate the app. Each is bound by their own privacy obligations:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), backend functions, and push messaging. Firebase privacy.
- LiveKit — real-time audio and video routing between players in a lobby. LiveKit privacy.
- Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchases (StoreKit), and push notification delivery (APNs). Apple privacy.
Some of these providers operate servers outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Data may be transferred and processed in those regions using standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.
5. Data Retention
Account, profile, game history, and chat data are retained for as long as your account is active. Live audio and video streams are not retained. Push tokens are removed when you uninstall the app or disable notifications.
6. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your SkateBits account directly from within the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. You can also request deletion by emailing hello@skatebits.app.
Account deletion removes your profile, chat threads (and all messages within them), and your authentication record. The following data is retained for the reasons noted:
- Match records (game history). Retained so that other players who participated in the same matches keep accurate stats, ratings, and leaderboards. Your display name is no longer linked to a live profile once your account is deleted.
- Moderation reports. Retained for safety and legal compliance.
- Aggregate, non-identifiable statistics. Retained for product analytics.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data:
- EU / UK (GDPR, UK-GDPR): right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and to object to processing.
- California (CCPA / CPRA): right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. SkateBits does not sell or share your personal information.
- Other jurisdictions: we honor equivalent rights where applicable.

8. Children's Privacy
SkateBits is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — TLS in transit, encrypted storage at rest via Firebase, and strict authentication scopes — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures consistent with the sensitivity of the data we hold.
10. Data Breach
If we become aware of a personal data breach that poses a risk to you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities within the timeframes required by applicable law (within 72 hours under GDPR).
11. Updates to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this page, and the "Effective date" above will be updated.
